模仿榜样，不仅模仿人（人格性的），而且还模仿宇宙（非人格性的impersonal）。

Linda Z的exemplarism描述有两个缺漏：1，没有对榜样生活方式的详细描述；2，需要有一套模仿的实践。

作者指出，在道家中，存在非人格的榜样，模仿的是其品质。

例如，模仿Dao，就是模仿Dao的三组德性：impartiality公, constancy常, and nourishing养。对应的模仿的实践，就是游wandering（逍遥游）和斋fasting（心斋）。

对道家这种cosmic emulation，荀子的指责是，它是非人性的inhumane（不属于人性的）。但是，作者指出，《庄子》中的真人毕竟是参与了社会生活。
